Grange Farm Centre, Chigwell Commercial

Grange Farm Centre is a 90 acre site providing the local community with leisure, sporting, recreational and educational facilities.

Grange Farm is an eco-friendly building that houses a community hall, football changing rooms, offices and Essex Wildlife wardens.  It is also home to community based clubs and associations, including Colebrook Royals FC, and offers its facilities to Chigwell School, Chigwell Riding Trust and Jubilee Lodge.

In 2011, Grange Farm benefitted from a £1.6m redevelopment project which was awarded the Green Apple Environment Award for Building and Construction, ‘Environmental Education Projects’.

During the redevelopment a resin bound surface was laid from the car park to reception, around to the changing rooms, to a pathway and steps leading to the football pitch at the rear.

Just three years later the surface had failed, with large areas suffering from such extreme stone loss that in some cases the asphalt base was exposed.

In our opinion, the main reasons for this failure were that the resin bound paving had not been laid at an adequate depth and that either an insufficient amount of resin was used or that it was of insufficient strength for the expected use.

Because resin bound paving fits in with the environmental credentials of Grange Farm, they decided to replace the failed resin bound with a superior version.

Grange Farm contacted us in April 2016 explaining their situation. We visited the site and provided a report, along with recommendations, on the existing surface.

Another issue that hadn’t been addressed with the original installation was drains and manhole covers, of which there were quite a few – one of them being directly outside the entrance.

We replaced the covers with inset versions into which SureSet was laid – camouflaging the ugly drains and delivering a smooth accessible surface.

In June 2016 we laid 291m² of Barley Beach. The new seamless SureSet surface surrounding the pavilion is further enhanced by the new inset drain covers infilled with resin bound paving.

We have delivered to our customer what they should have had the first time around - a smooth, durable, accessible, attractive finish.

Top tips for choosing a resin bound company.

“I must say your installers were fantastic. They worked so hard and managed their work around the weather and public. Please pass on my praise to the lads and the directors.”
