Farewell to Our Easy Rider – Happy Retirement, Dave!
? Farewell to Our Easy Rider – Happy Retirement, Dave!
This month, we say farewell (but not goodbye) to one of our most colourful characters – Dave, who’s hanging up his hard hat and riding off into a well-earned retirement.
After decades of dedicated service, Dave leaves behind not just a legacy of hard work and great humour, but also a few lasting sounds – from the rumble of his Harley to the riffs of his guitar.
To mark the occasion, our multi-talented site supervisor Daren Johnson has crafted something truly special: a custom guitar made from recycled metals, with contributions from staff across the site. All donations are being passed to Children in Need, Dave’s chosen charity – a fitting tribute to a man who’s always had a big heart (and a big amp!).
? A Life in Music and Motion
Dave picked up his first guitar at the age of 14, and he’s been playing ever since – most recently with his band About A Girl. Whether rocking out on stage or cruising down the open road on his beloved Harley Davidson, Dave has always followed his passions full throttle.
Over the past 35 years, he and his wife have toured extensively across Europe and America, with plans once laid to ride all the way to Russia. When he’s not gigging or riding, Dave’s happiest at home surrounded by his growing family – now including four lively grandchildren. “Busy, busy!” as he says.
? Fun Facts with Dave
Favourite takeaway: Indian – “Always torn between a Jalfrezi or a Jeera. I just love all things curry!”

? The One That (Almost) Was
Here’s a story for the rock history books – back in 1978, Dave auditioned for Joe Jackson’s band (Is She Really Going Out With Him?, Steppin’ Out)… and nearly got the job! As Dave jokes, “How different things could have been, eh?”
Well, we think things turned out pretty well all the same, Dave.
?️ Riding Into the Sunset
So here’s to our very own Easy Rider – musician, biker, family man, and friend.
Dave, you’ll be missed around here, but we hope your next chapter is full of roaring engines, good curries, and the laughter of grandkids.
From all of us – congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for everything.
Rock on, Dave. ?
