Practical Paving Solution for Oakwood House

The town of Farnborough is in the borough of Rushmoor in North-East Hampshire and recognised as the birthplace of modern aviation. With both Farnborough International Airshow and Farnborough Air Sciences Trust attracting flying enthusiasts from all over the world.

In 2003 planning permission was sought for the demolition of garages at North Farm Road and in 2004 permission granted for the erection of 11 flats in their place – Oakwood House.

Owned by First Wessex, Oakwood House is now a well-established residential community.

Over the years, the young trees planted during development matured and began blocking sunlight from the rear communal garden. This meant that grass wouldn’t grow and children couldn’t play there because it was always muddy.

With trees blocking sunlight and preventing grass from growing, planning permission was requested to replace the existing 95m² grassed area with SureSet permeable resin bound paving, quoting:
‘This material is finished with no loose stones and is ideal for children, bicycles, disabled access etc. and is permeable to water’.
SureSet Natural Aggregate, in the popular shade of Barley Beach, was specified to replace the grass because it:
“created a dry and safe place, enabling the residents and the children to use the area all year round”.

With SureSet now laying in place of the sorry looking grass, the communal rear garden is now a smooth, dry, accessible surface that can be used by residents throughout the year.

Creating a welcoming, open communal area that requires very little maintenance to keep looking as good as new, it’s now also an ideal place for the children to play- it’s dry, safe and best of all – no longer muddy!
