The Story Behind the Win

In December 2024, SureSet launched its biggest giveaway yet – a complete resin bound driveway makeover worth over £10,000. Among hundreds of heartfelt entries, one in particular stood out.

Emelia, from Tidworth, nominated her partner Ieuan with a touching submission that captured the resilience, strength, and love that defined their journey:

“My partner Ieuan is 26 –bought and started renovating his house, not long into the renovations he got diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In the middle of his treatment, his wife left him, all while he was trying to balance his military career, heavy doses of chemotherapy, and continue finishing the renovating on a budget! I came into his life, and we managed to finish some of the house renovations together, however, the budget ran out and the house is only half done. I know winning this driveway makeover would take a massive weight off his shoulders. He has now beaten cancer after a horrendous stem cell transplant, which we are extremely grateful but you always have the worry.”

Her powerful words captured our hearts – and in early 2025, we travelled to Tidworth to surprise Emelia and Ieuan in person with the incredible news that they were our winners.

The Transformation Begins

Ieuan and Emelia’s existing driveway consisted of tired, cracked concrete and loose gravel – both impractical and visually dated. The transformation plan included resurfacing the full driveway, a pathway leading to the front door, and the side path up to the garden gate – all with SureSet’s durable, low-maintenance resin bound paving.

The couple selected 6mm Chestnut from our Natural Aggregate range – a warm, earthy tone that complements their home beautifully. As a special touch, our team added a custom house number inset, designed and printed in-house by SureSet, to create a unique and personalised finish.

To complete the transformation, our ambassadors Green Genie stepped in to add the final flourish. They installed a range of welcoming, pollinator-friendly plants around the front garden and pathways – bringing colour, nature, and a sense of peace to the entrance of the home.

What It Means

Speaking after the project’s completion, Emelia shared:

“It still feels surreal that we won. After everything Ieuan has been through, having this incredible driveway is like a fresh start. It’s not just a makeover – it’s one less thing to worry about. The team at SureSet and Green Genie were amazing. We love the personalised touch and how the plants bring the whole front of the house to life.”

Ieuan added:

“I’m blown away. After years of dealing with so much, it’s hard to explain how much this means to us. Thank you, SureSet and Green Genie – this really has lifted a weight.”

This project is a testament to how the power of community, thoughtful design, and sustainable materials can come together to truly change lives.
