Tree Pits – Bringing Nature and Industry Together

The western world is full of urban spaces and commercial areas, but as we’ve built on our land our nature has been disappearing. The grassy fields and lush forests are now car parks and shopping malls and, whilst progress definitely isn’t a bad thing, it would be nice to get a little bit of that greenery back. This is where tree pits come in, and by using them in your urban area you can combine nature and industry harmoniously.

What Are Tree Pits?

If you look, you’ll see tree pits in a lot of commercial spaces. They’re usually squares in the ground with a variation in the surrounding paving and a planted tree, adding a little bit of nature to our urban environments. Sometimes, they may use soil surrounded by brickwork whilst other tree pits can be covered with a surface such as permeable resin gravel. They can also be raised or at the same level as the rest of the floor.

Why Have Trees for Commercial properties?

As people become more concerned about the environment they start to look for eco-conscious businesses, and if you don’t have an eco-ethos you might just lose out on their custom. By installing tree pits, you can show that you’re doing your bit for the planet and begin an eco-friendly marketing campaign. There’s also no denying that our planet needs some TLC, so even if the marketing opportunity doesn’t appeal to you the benefits to the world definitely should!

Why not use your tree pits to help get more involved with the community? You could start a tree-planting campaign in your local area to encourage other businesses to plant more, and ask your community to help plant your trees.

Trees can also make a space look more welcoming and bright, adding colour to a concrete commercial park or making a mall look more appealing. Whatever your tree pit ideas, this little bit of nature is bound to make your area look far nicer and attract more custom.

Resin Bound Tree Pits

A lot of commercial spaces use metal grilles when designing tree pit ideas, but these aren’t the nicest to look at and certainly not the most practical solution. A great alternative is resin bound tree pits, which have the following benefits:

  • Porous paving allows water to reach the roots of your trees with water pipes and systems.
  • It’s an easy surface to maintain that’s incredibly durable and reduces the chances for weeds to grow.
  • No loose stones on the paving keep the surrounding areas clear and reduce hazards to passers-by.

At SureSet, you’re also given a 21-year guarantee on your resin-bound tree pits, so once they’re installed you’ll have the peace of mind that they’re here to stay. Our resin can also be placed around older, mature trees which have had their roots exposed over the years, helping improve safety in the area whilst still letting the tree grow with the permeable surface.

Customise Your Tree Pit

As a business how your space looks is important, which means that your tree pit is important too! Design yours to reflect your commercial space and show your brand to the world. With our resin, you can choose from a range of textures and colours to make sure your pit fits into your industry space and keeps your space welcoming and enticing. We also recommend using plenty of space when designing your pit to help your trees grow, making it around 8-10 feet long if you can to keep your plants healthy. But, you should also have plenty of surrounding room for pedestrians so if needed you can make your pits smaller.
