Top Football Club Revamp

A few months ago, SureSet were contacted by Manchester City Football Club to renovate the access road at the VIP and Player’s entrance at the Etihad Stadium. The entrance is situated in the Colin Bell stand, which is named after one of City’s greatest players.

At the time of the enquiry, the surface was made up of asphalt which had been painted with what seemed to be a mastic based paint. Unfortunately, the blue painted surface had started to lift away from the base and crack in some areas, hardly fitting for the high profile entrance to one of the richest clubs in the world!!

A SureSet representative visited site to meet with one of Man City’s Stadium Managers and their preferred groundwork’s contractor Masonbarn Ltd. The need for a high class, modern finish was discussed and SureSet put forward a number of options for aggregate choices and the possibility of including their crest in the surface was first aired.

After a consultation between SureSet and MCFC regarding the possible designs, the use of a 6mm Sterling was chosen for the roadway with an area of bespoke Light Blue coloured glass from our Spectrum range for the pedestrian section. Within the Sterling, the MCFC crest was to be installed using several colours from the Spectrum range, set in place using an MDF stencil created by a 3rd party CNC cutting contractor.

To ensure a top quality finish for the SureSet, the need for a level and solid base was impressed upon MCFC and Masonbarn Ltd. The result was that Masonbarn would plane out the required depth across the entire area and patch in any areas of weak asphalt; thus creating a blank canvas for the design to be brought to life.

Whilst two of SureSet’s top installation operatives set about positioning the stencil in pride of place in front of the walkway leading into the stadium, the remainder of the team began to install the 1st section of Sterling.

The crest was built up in a painstaking manner over the course of several days, one colour at a time, until it began to take shape. It was testament to the diligence of the installation team that the finished crest was constantly being inspected by the members of the public who were watching the installation with baited breath.

Once the area was completed, the Assistant Stadium Manager of MCFC remarked how striking the area looked and remarked that the fans and senior management of the club were equally impressed with the result. We were honoured to re-create their iconic crest that will be seen and remembered by all Manchester City players and their fans.
