We have installed another poppy! This time it was for RBLI in their new Garden of Honour in Royal British Legion Village, Aylesford, Kent. Through the 80 houses in Royal British Legion Village, RBLI provide essential housing for ex-service men and women.
Every year residents of the village, and others, attend the Memorial Garden to pay their respects and mark Remembrance Day. RBLI recognised that the existing Garden was no longer big enough to accommodate the increasing number of people attending this annual event.
To mark the centenary of the First World War RBLI set a fundraising target of £300,000 to renovate the Memorial Garden into a larger, more accessible Garden of Honour. Only one third away from their target, RBLI have received great support from Trusts, Foundations, local businesses and individuals.
In August 2014, we received an enquiry from the project contractor, G A Harpers, about installing a poppy as part of the refurbishment of the existing Memorial Garden. On a very windy October day our highly skilled Installation Team laid a vibrant 18m² poppy using the colours of Traffic Red, Traffic Black and Cobalt Blue from our Spectrum® recycled glass range.
The project is near completion and has separate areas including a bandstand, garden, small parade ground and a colourful RBLI SureSet poppy!
The main construction of the Garden of Honour will be finished in time for this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday 9th November, will be a fitting memorial, to those who have served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces.
The original Memorial Garden was opened by HRH the Duchess of Kent in 1980 and is set against one of the original walls of Preston Hall estate. The Garden of Honour will be officially opened by a member of the Royal Family in 2015 – 25 years later.
We also installed a poppy for the Royal British Legion’s Memorial Garden in Steyning. The fantastic feedback we have received from our poppy installation inspired us to fundraiser for the Poppy Appeal.
Our Installation Team handmade limited edition SureSet poppy samples and for every poppy sample requested we donated £1 to the Poppy Appeal
