Magistrates court
Background
The North Somerset Courthouse and Queensway House was part of a private finance initiative project with Her Majesty's Courts Service, Avon & Somerset Probation Area and Services Support Consortium. It was the first joint venture of its kind, and won the prestigious Public Private Finance Award in the category of Public Sector Joint Working Award in June 2006.
The Avon and Somerset Magistrates' Court was designed by Building Design Partnership who awarded the project to Mowlem Construction. Mowlem contracted Spadeoak Construction to complete various groundworks on the site, which included areas to be completed by SureSet.
Solution
SureSet permeable paving is increasingly being used on major projects as an alternative to traditional paving or surfacing materials. The resin bound paving system mixes resin with aggregate, ensuring that each particle of material is fully coated with resin to give not only durability, but most importantly a safe finish with no loose material and a minimum number of joints.
In total, an area of 2,100m² of 6mm natural gravel pathways was laid on this project, with 34 tree pits using 47m² of 10mm rounded gravel.
Result
SureSet permeable resin bound paving has provided an aesthetically pleasing, elegant and safe surface which is very much in keeping with the development as a whole.
