Background The North Somerset Courthouse and Queensway House was part of a private finance initiative project with Her Majesty's Courts Service, Avon & Somerset Probation Area and Services Support Consortium. It was the first joint venture of its kind, and won the prestigious Public Private Finance Award 2006 in the category of Public Sector Joint Working Award in June 2006.
Situation The Avon and Somerset Magistrates' Court was designed by Building Design Partnership who awarded the project to Mowlem Construction. Mowlem contracted Spadeoak Construction to complete various groundworks on the site, which included areas to be completed by SureSet. |

Why Sureset? To many specifiers, the SureSet resin bound surfacing system is synonymous with small decorative or feature areas but the system is increasingly being used on major projects as an alternative to traditional paving or surfacing materials.
SureSet's resin bound paving system mixes the resin with aggregate, ensuring that each particle of material is fully coated with resin. This gives durability and, most importantly, a safe finish with no loose material. In a resin bonded system, the aggregate is laid down on a base coat of resin, with a top sealing coat. This system requires removal of loose aggregate after laying and lacks the integral strength of SureSet's resin bound system. |

Solution In total, an area of 2,100m2 of 6mm natural gravel pathways was laid, with 34 tree pits using 47m2 of 10mm rounded gravel.

Result SureSet's resin bound paving surface provides an aesthetically pleasing and safe surface very much in keeping with the development. |
