Background
Rugby Borough Council wanted to provide an attractive and eye catching paved area as part of the Overslade Lane Environment Improvement Works. The Council needed to ensure that the end product was both attractive and durable enough to withstand not only high pedestrian use, but also emergency and maintenance vehicles.
Solution
SureSet resin bound paving was specified for use on this project, with the design calling for the use of two different coloured aggregates, 6mm Dovedale Cream for the main area and 6mm Tuscan Terracotta for a wavy feature. The vibrant colour from the Tuscan terracotta comes from the aggregate itself and not from any added pigments, meaning the colour will stay vibrant throughout its life and will not fade.
A flexible metal edging was used to separate the two different aggregates and form a clean, crisp divide.
During the installation, it was essential that local shops could remain open and continue to trade. The SureSet surface was therefore installed over consecutive days to allow uninterrupted entry to the shops, with the curing times adjusted to meet the needs of the programme.
Result
The installation was completed in May 2008. Mick Stent from Rugby Borough Council was clearly delighted with the result saying: “This is a very good quality surface and I would recommend using SureSet to others”.
